Men's Soccer Looks to Bounce Back at Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team will be looking to bounce back from a loss at Limestone when they travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on the Catawba College Indians.

Catawba will go into Saturday's match with a 4-0-1 record, most recently ending in a 4-4 draw against Converse on Wednesday (Sept. 15). The Indians were riding a four-game win streak before that with wins against Mount Olive, Barton, USC Aiken, and Belmont Abbey. Before the season, Catawba was tabbed to finish 12th in the SAC after finishing the abbreviated spring season with a 2-3-1 record.

Nico Morillo is the leading goal scorer for Catawba with three on the season, including two scores in the 4-4 draw against Converse. Simone Trentin and Joseph Alleron each lead the team with three assists. Goalkeeper Gianluca Tommasi leads the SAC in save percentage (.786) and is second in total saves (22).

Despite the loss to Limestone, the Trojans have gotten off to a great start in the 2021 fall season. A pair of non-conference wins against Mount Olive and Lander were great victories for the program, but now the team is tasked with avoiding back to back SAC losses to start the campaign.

Alexandre Cox-Ashwood has been a breakout star for Anderson, scoring five goals and one assist which earned him both SAC Astroturf Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, and United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week.

The Trojans will continue their season on Saturday (Sept. 18) to take on the Catawba College Indians. Game time is set for 8:00 PM, with video and live stats available at www.autrojans.com.
