ANDERSON, S.C.--Despite a two-hour storm delay, Anderson Men's Soccer (4-0-2) came to win in Saturday night's home contest and did just that, extending their unbeaten streak to six with a 3-1 victory over the Tusculum Pioneers (1-5).
The rain delay did nothing to deter the Trojan offense, who tallied three goals in 15 minutes, a deficit that proved too great for the Pioneers to overcome.
Trojan midfielder Joachim Koch (Styria, Austria) found his first goal on the season, blasting one through the box and past the keeper to get the home team on the board in the 23rd minute. Not five minutes later, a corner kick service from Pol Elias (Barcelona, Spain) found the head of Jonas Zethofer (Vienna Austria) who doubled AU's lead with his third goal of the season.
In the 37th minute, a cross from Leone Corzani (Forli, Italy) connected with Juan Jose Alvarez (Santiago, Chile) who tucked it away. The goal was AU's third on the night and Alvarez's third on the season. Anderson took a 3-0 advantage into the break.
The second half saw the Pioneers outshoot the Trojans seven to three, and the visitors got one back in the 58th minute, cutting Anderson's lead to two. With less than ten to play, a Trojan handball in the box gave Tusculum the opportunity to bring the game within one, but Trojan keeper Franco Antoniolli (Cardoba, Argentina) came up huge, making the stop from the spot for his first penalty save of the season. The save was one of four made by Antoniolli in the contest.
AU totaled 13 shots and eight corners on the night, while TU recorded 11 shots and earned seven corners.
The Trojans are back home on Wednesday (Oct. 1) to host the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne (1-4). Anderson looks to avenge last year's 0-1 SAC Semifinal loss to LR, which ended their season.
