COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team came up short in Tuesday's hard-fought exhibition against the University of South Carolina Gamecocks by a score of 4 to 3.

Martin Carpena scored the first goal of the evening for the Trojans off a free kick just outside the box, placing the ball in the upper corner of the net. With the Gamecocks holding a 4 to 1 lead late in the first half, Alexandre Cox-Ashwood was able to assist on a goal to Harry Ward to cut into the deficit. Just before halftime, Anderson scored their third goal of the match as Martin Carpena set up Agustin Ortiz to find the back of the net.

"We have a lot to take away from tonight's game," said coach Michael Zion. "We certainly have some things to improve on, but there are a lot of things to be excited about as well. The boys showed a lot of resilience tonight and responded well after conceding two goals in the early minutes. We pulled ourselves back into the game and that's not an easy task to do. This was our seventh day together as a team, so we are looking forward to going back to work and continuing to improve."

Neko Crist and Gal Elyashiv both had solid nights in goal for the Trojans, starting the first and second halves, respectively.

The Trojans' first regular season match is scheduled for September 8th as they will travel to take on Mount Olive. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.autrojans.com.
