ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team is preparing to host a SAC Tournament Quarterfinal match on Saturday (Nov. 6), after picking up a big 2-1 win on Wednesday (Nov. 3) against the Coker University Cobras in a thrilling overtime victory.
After the Cobras scored a late first half goal, the Trojans responded with a goal in the second half from Santiago Arce Alvarez, and a golden goal in overtime from Eloy Allimadi to walk away with the 2-1 win over Coker. Before Wednesday's match, Anderson was ranked ninth in the latest NCAA Super Region 2 rankings. For the SAC, Limestone was fifth and Lenoir-Rhyne tabbed ninth.
"Wednesday's win was great for the boys and our program against a top team," said coach Michael Zion. "The effort they put into the game to fight back from being a goal down and then push on to win it was incredible. We will look to keep this momentum going into quarterfinals."
Anderson won the previous matchup against Queens on Sept. 29 with a 1-0 victory over the Royals, courtesy of a penalty kick goal from Agustin Ortiz in the 85th minute.
As the fifth seed in the tournament, Queens enters the match with a 7-6-2 record and a 6-3-2 clip in the SAC. The Royals are riding a two-game win streak, coming off wins on the road at Coker and Tusculum. Felipe Mendonca leads the SAC with 14 goals on the year, including 10 in conference play.
The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday (Nov. 6) as they play host to Queens for the SAC Tournament Quarterfinals. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 P.M. with video and live stats available at www.autrojans.com.
