GAINESVILLE, Ga.--Led by Trojan freshman Hugh Faulkner (Greenville, S.C.) who earned a 4th-place individual finish, the Trojans tied for a 9th-place team finish among a highly competitive field at the Mizuno Intercollegiate this week.
"Really proud of the guys this week," said Head Men's Golf Coach Daniel Coker. "We went toe-to-toe with 7 of the Top-10 preseason teams in the country for the first half of the tournament. Just a few mistakes to clean up before we leave Saturday for a familiar course in Albany, Ga."
Anderson kicked off the tournament recording a season-best two-under opening round. Faulkner shot a bogey-free 66—the 5th-best 18-hole score in program history—while junior Luke Sullivan (Columbia, S.C.) shot an even-par opening round. A 12-stroke slip from Round 1 to Round 2 proved costly for the Trojans' spot on the team leaderboard.
Faulkner went on to shoot 72-73 to finish five-under overall for a 4th-place finish. He was followed by fellow freshman Caden Olsommer (Anderson, S.C.) who shot a one-under final round to finish at +3, landing 32nd on the leaderboard.
"Really proud of Hugh on his Top-5 finish!" added Coker. "Caden also had a great finish today as well on his final 9 holes to shoot –1 for the day. Super excited for this young group to continue to grow and improve!"
The Trojans continue the fall slate next week (Sept. 22-23) at Georgia Southwestern's home tournament at the Doublegate Country Club in Albany, Ga.
