GREENVILLE, S.C.--In a new format designed to mimic that of the NCAA Championships, the South Atlantic Conference Championships altered their tournament to consist of three 18-hole rounds followed by medal match play among the four best-scoring teams. Finishing tied for fourth after 36 holes on Sunday, the Trojans needed to pull away in the final stroke-play round on Monday, and did just that, furthering their postseason run.
Anderson finished 4th on the leaderboard after the opening 18, shooting +14 as a team. The Trojans bettered that score by five strokes for Round 2 to finish +23 on the day. AU was tied for 4th with Carson-Newman to end the day.
On Monday, AU shot +10, a score good enough to advance to medal match play by a six-stroke margin.
Freshman Caden Olsommer (Anderson, S.C.) led the Black and Gold, shooting one-over on the tournament for a 4th-place individual finish—the best result of his collegiate career and good to secure himself a spot on the SAC Championships All-Tournament Team. Olsommer carded a 71 second round for AU's only under-par round of the opening 54 holes.
The Trojans join three nationally-ranked teams in tomorrow's Medal Match play and will face No. 5 Wingate, as the Bulldogs earned the top-seed with a stroke-play victory. No. 16 Lincoln Memorial and No. 9 Catawba will also face off tomorrow as the 2- and 3-seeds respectively.
AU will tee off from Hole 1 in the morning with tee times ranging from 8:00-8:40 AM.
