Men’s Golf Falls to Wingate in SAC Championships Medal Match

GREENVILLE, S.C.--The Trojans advanced to medal match play at the South Atlantic Conference Championships Monday afternoon, advancing to play Wingate in the tournament's semifinal on Tuesday but ultimately came up short.

The four-seeded Trojans faced the No. 5 Bulldogs, who earned the top-seed after winning stroke-play. Despite the odds looking to favor the Black and Gold late in the match, Wingate came out on top, 4.5-0.5.

Trojan junior Can Gurdenli (Istanbul, Turkey) earned the Trojans' lone tie on the afternoon, shooting +3 on the round along with his opponent. Gurdenli was 3-up through 14 holes but suffered two bogeys in the final stretch to fall level in his match.

Match 2 saw sophomore Beau Lewis (Greenville, S.C.) as good as 5-up, after he made par on Holes 4 and 6, while his opponent combined to shoot +8 on just those two holes. The score gap lessened as the match continued, and after Lewis double-bogeyed and bogeyed his final two holes, the score favored Wingate after 18.

Caden Olsommer (Anderson, S.C.) looked to continue his tournament success after finishing first for the Trojans and fourth overall on the leaderboard after the opening 54 holes. His match stayed consistently close throughout its entirety, but a bogey on Hole 18 saw the tied match tilt to the Bulldogs.

In Matches 4 and 5, Wingate took an early lead and never lost it, clinching the advantage for the Bulldogs and closing out the 2025-26 season for the Trojans.
