ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojan track and field teams rounded out regular season competition this weekend, competing at both the App State Open in Boone, N.C. and the WUPax Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
App State Open
Four Trojans competed in the women's 200m dash, in addition to their primary events. Of the four, all boasted personal best 200m races. Senior Lacey Boozer (Simpsonville, S.C.) finished first for Anderson with a 7th-place time of 25.04. Just behind her, freshman Mackenzie Moretina (Kansas City, Mo.) ran a 25.63 race, good for 9th place. Sophomore Abby Kwasny (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and senior Jessa Kindel (Easley, S.C.) finished 13th and 16th with times of 26.70 and 27.51 respectively.
In their primary events, Moretina won the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.93 in the finals. Boozer finished 2nd in the 400m dash with a 55.69 mark.
Kwasny and Kindel doubled up on the day with PR marks, earning personal best races in their respective hurdle events. Kwasny ran a 1:06 400m hurdle race to finish 3rd in the event. Kindel ran a 15.17 PR race in the 100m hurdle prelims to qualify for the finals, where she ran 15.29, finishing 2nd overall in the event.
Competing in mid-distance events, junior Emma Whiter (Inman, S.C.) finished 2nd in the 800m with a time of 2:15, while senior Mclayne Wyatt (Greenville, S.C.) ran a PR mile time of 5:15 to finish 5th on the board.
In the field, sophomore Rylie Jenkins (Loranger, La.) posted a PR pole vault mark of 3.62m to finish 4th. She finished behind teammate Avery Marshall (York, S.C.) who cleared the 3.77m bar to finish 2nd. Maggie Long (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) recorded a PR 5.31m long jump mark, while Georgia Piper (Dacula, Ga.) finished 2nd in high jump with a 1.46m jump.
On the men's side, Jordan Gross (Chester, Va.) and Simeon Respress (Cornella, Ga.) each recorded two Top-5 performances. Gross finished 4th in the long jump with a 6.88m mark and 5th in the high jump with a 1.87m jump, while Respress boasted a 3rd-place finish in both events, jumping 6.90m and 1.92m respectively.
On the track, Joey Tindale (Rock Hill, S.C.) won the 800m with a time of 1:53, while Will Cronin (Lexington, S.C.) finished 2nd in the 5000m with a time of 15:04. Sean McAdams (Greenville, S.C.) finished 3rd in both of his events, running a PR 4:20 mile and a 9:39 3000m steeplechase race. Dallas Cantrell (Spartanburg, S.C.) finished 5th in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.08.
Boasting PR marks on the afternoon were David Brown (Menomonie, Wis.) with a 6.24m long jump, Noah Stump (Easley, S.C.) and Marcus Bright (Taylors, S.C.) with times of 1:56 and 2:04 respectively in the 800m, Tyler Farris (Dacula, Ga.) with a 17.13 110m hurdle race and Johnny McCoy (Easley, S.C.) with a 57.78 400m hurdle performance.
WUPAX Invitational
The Trojan throwers traveled to Rock Hill for the weekend to compete in their events.
Senior Sarah Wimpee (Summerville, S.C.) finished 3rd in the hammer throw, recording a massive PR mark of 44.40m. She also finished 4th in the discus throw with a 38.56m mark and 6th in shot put with a 10.51m throw.
Sophomore Chase Brightharp (Trenton, S.C.) finished 5th in the hammer and discus throw events, with marks of 35.88m and 38.82m respectively. He finished 6th in shot put with a 13.03m throw.
The Trojans now look to prepare for the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne from April 30 to May 1.
