ANDERSON, S.C. - Led by senior goalkeeper's Kaitlyn Neipp's 13 saves, Anderson University women's soccer fought hard, but fell just short of an upset bid as No. 15 ranked Rollins knocked off the Trojans 2-1 in the season opener Saturday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

Neipp led a defensive that saw a fury of shots by the Rollins (2-0) attack, but held steady throughout, only allowing Rollins to score two goals on 15 shots on goal. The Tars, who defeated USC Aiken 4-1 earlier in the week, got on the score sheet with two goals from freshman Paxton Sickler. Both goals came from outside the 15-yard box and we fired high out of Neipp's reach.

Despite taking the loss, Anderson (0-1) grabbed an early lead in the 34th minute when freshman Corinne Doll used her height and headed in a corner from senior Krystal Goss. For Doll, it was her first goal scored in a Trojan uniform and was the 13th assist and 43rd point for Goss in her career.

The Tars responded quickly with Sickler's first goal of the afternoon, as the match went to 1-1, the eventual halftime score.

In the first 35 minutes of the second half, Neipp recorded seven saves, but the last shot on goal proved costly as Sickler tallied her second goal in the 80th minute. For Sickler, the game-winner was her third on her young career.

"I'm incredibly proud of Kaitlyn," Anderson head coach Samar Azem said. "She made it very difficult for the Rollins attack. Overall, I'm proud of our girls. We have a lot of work to do, but this is a very big and positive step for us. I'm excited for the future."

The Trojans get back on the pitch on Sept. 11 as they hit the road for the first time this season to Lander. Kickoff in Greenwood is scheduled for 7 p.m.
