ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer (5-3-1, 3-2 SAC) fell in a hard-fought battle at home against Wingate (5-4, 2-3 SAC) Saturday night.
A goal by the Bulldogs put Wingate on the board just 23 minutes into the first half of the matchup. Anderson struggled to find momentum heading into the final half with Wingate scoring two more goals on the pitch.
In the 59
th minute, the Trojans capitalized on an opportunity with a penalty kick goal by sophomore
Ansley Douty (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) to put Anderson on the board. The Bulldogs responded with another goal shortly before junior
Kaitlyn Gregory (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored a lone goal for the Trojans.
Wingate led the match with 13 shots, including 10 on goal, while Anderson tallied 12 shots with seven on target. The Trojans recorded held a 10-6 advantage in corner kicks over the Bulldogs.
R-Sophomore
Aliyah Morgan (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the matchup recording six saves with Wingate tallying five.
The Black and Gold take the quick trip to Converse for the final non-conference matchup of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
