SUMTER, S.C.--After a rocky start to league play this season, the Trojans found their rhythm on the court at the end of last month, winning four of their last five South Atlantic Conference matches to secure a spot in the SAC Championships. Anderson looked to carry momentum into postseason, but after competing in the longest quarterfinal match of the morning, Wingate ultimately outlasted AU, 4-1, to advance to the SAC Semifinals.
The 7-seed Trojans and 2-seed Bulldogs kicked off the morning with competitive doubles play, each taking a court with Spencer Dorosheff (High Springs, Fla.) and Dandapoojith Reddy (Columbia, S.C.) claiming Court 3 by a 7-5 advantage and Wingate winning Court 2, 6-3.
The doubles point came down to Court 1, where Trojan All-Conference pair Mathis Collignon (Les Pavillons Sous Bois, France) and Wynn Shioi (Las Vegas, Nev.) survived being down 0-3 in the tiebreaker to win the match 7-6 (8-6). The win marks the first time the Trojans have secured the doubles point over the Bulldogs since 2022.
Moving into singles play with the 1-0 advantage, the Trojans had their eyes on the upset. Dorosheff carried his winning momentum into a 7-5 first-set victory on Court 4, while Vicent Fenollar (Alicante, Spain) also earned a 7-5 win in Set 1 on Court 2.
Wingate took straight sets on Courts 1 and 6 to give the Bulldogs the 2-1 lead. On Court 3, Shioi fell in his opening set before rallying to pick up a 6-3 second-set victory to force a third. WU then won Court 5 to take a 3-1 advantage.
After winning his opening set, Dorosheff dropped his second, but was up 5-4 in the third when Wingate clinched the match with a 7-5 third-set victory on Court 3.
The Bulldogs earned four singles wins to claim the victory and spot in the SAC Semifinals.
