Box Score ANDERSON, S.C.--The Trojans dropped a tightly contested match against Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon, falling 4-3 in their second of a four-match homestretch to open the spring season.
Anderson opened the match dominating in doubles play. AU won all three courts, with Mathis Collignon (Les Pavillons Sous Bois, France) and Wynn Shioi (Las Vegas, Nev.) taking Court 1 by a score of 6-2, while duos Vicent Fenollar (Alicante, Spain)/Sky Thavornchaisophon (Bangkok, Thailand) and Dandapoojith Reddy (Columbia, S.C.)/Spencer Dorosheff (High Springs, Fla.) won Courts 2 and 3 respectively both by scores of 6-3.
Moving into singles play, Collignon won a quick two sets at the No. 1 position to boost the Trojans to a 2-0 lead.
The advantage proved to not hold enough momentum, however, as the Patriots got into a groove of their own. The visitors won four-straight singles matches to earn the victory.
Despite the match result, Stanley Long (Auckland, New Zealand) finished out his game on Court 5 and defeated his FMU opponent in a tiebreaker to earn the Trojans another point. The Patriots took home the 4-3 win.
AU opens South Atlantic Conference play next week with back-to-back home matches, hosting Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday (Feb. 25) and Lincoln Memorial on Saturday (Feb. 28).
