Trojans Rebound, Blank Newberry 4-0

Box Score

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Anderson men's tennis (12-7, 4-5 SAC) shook off losses in their last two matches, shutting out conference foe Newberry (3-11, 2-7 SAC) 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Oakland Tennis Center. Armed with their 5th straight doubles point, the Trojans earned another SAC victory.

"Really proud of the boys for bouncing back after a tough loss at UVA Wise with Coach [Eskridge] and I not being there," AU Assistant Coach Kate Drosieko said after the win. "They went out there, fought, gave it their all, and we got a sweep out of it. Really proud of them and their hard work, and excited to see what they'll do on Saturday for Senior Day."

Doubles was a fruitful period for AU, as they raced to a quick 1-0 lead in the dual. Mathis Collignon and Sky Thavornchaisophon posted an emphatic 6-2 win at No. 2 to kick things off. Patrick Cronin and Vicent Mico continued their dominance at No. 3, getting out to a 5-0 lead before finishing off a 6-2 victory. Jackson Lucas and Wynn Shioi stood just 2 points from victory when play was stopped.

Newberry fought back in singles play, but AU was ultimately too much. Mico was the first Trojan off the court, forcing his opponent to retire while up 6-4, 3-0 in the match. Poojith Reddy extended the lead to 3-0 with a straight-set win at No. 5, before Thavornchaisophon ended the match with a 7-5, 6-3 win of his own.

When the match was clinched, Collignon, Shioi, and Hampton Goldman had their matches stopped while in the second set of competitive matchups.
