WISE, VA. – Anderson men's tennis (11-7, 3-5 SAC) dropped a 4-1 road contest to the UVA Wise Cavaliers (11-7, 3-4 SAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Jim & Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex. The Trojans nabbed the doubles point to begin play, but UVA Wise responded in singles to earn the victory.
AU rallied to take the doubles point behind wins at No. 2 and 3. Patrick Cronin and Vicent Mico rolled to a quick 6-2 victory at No. 3, before the Cavs' 6-3 win at No. 1 knotted things up. At No. 2, UVA Wise held a match point while leading 5-4, but AU's Mathis Collignon and Sky Thavornchaisophon didn't quit. The pair battled back for a 7-6(5) win in a tiebreak that clinched the match's first point.
With the Trojans leading 1-0, UVA Wise fought back to the tune of four singles wins. Thavornchaisophon shows resilience to force a deciding set, but was bested at No. 4. When the Cavaliers had clinched the match, Collignon held a 7-6(1), 4-2 lead on court 1.
UP NEXT
AU stays on the road for a midweek matchup against Newberry (3-10, 2-6 SAC) on Wednesday, April 2. The Trojans and Wolves will match up at 1:30 p.m. at the Oakland Tennis Center. Last season, AU won the annual meeting 5-2 at home.
