Princiotto's Gem Boost Trojans to 4-2 Win Over UVA Wise

Box Score

ANDERSON, S.C. – A brilliant performance on the mound by graduate Trey Princiotto (Horseheads, N.Y.) lifted the Anderson University (21-24, 10-18 SAC) baseball team to a Friday night win in their series opener with UVA Wise (12-35, 8-20 SAC) by a score of 4-2 on April 26 at Anderson Memorial Stadium.

Princiotto nearly went the distance in the contest, pitched eight and two-thirds innings in the game, fanning 11 batters along the way and allowing just five hits and two runs. He tossed 125 total pitches in the outing, 85 of them going for strikes while facing 32 batters. Senior Ryan Brash (Aiken, S.C.) provided the final out of the game to pick up his third save of the year. Senior Kye Andress (Hendersonville, N.C.) was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish in the game while recording a pair of RBIs while senior Carlos Hernandez (Maracay, Venezuela), sophomore Gray Wells (Chapin, S.C.) and freshman Carson Molinaroli (Summerville, S.C.) each recorded multi-hit games. Wells picked up an RBI on the night along with one from senior JC LeGrand (Lugoff, S.C.).

A two-RBI single in the bottom of the first inning got the Trojans going early in the contest, but then were stifled for a few frames while the Cavaliers were able to hold them scoreless until the fifth inning. However, an RBI-single by Wells in the fifth and a sacrifice fly in the sixth by LeGrand looked to put the contest out of reach for good, as the Trojans led 4-0. But, a pair of doubles down the right field line in the seventh by UVA Wise brought around their first run of the contest before Princiotto shut them down. A sacrifice fly in the ninth would plate the only other run for the Cavaliers on the night, and though the Trojans coaching staff gave Princiotto the ball to finish out the night, a walk and a single would bring his night to an end and make way for Brash to record the final out and secure the 4-2 win.

The two teams return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 27 as they complete their three-game series with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
