Trojans Roll Past Augusta 10-3 in Season Finale

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Anderson University baseball team cruised to a 10-3 road victory over Augusta on Tuesday evening, getting a balanced offensive effort and a quality start from Joshua Legnard (Moncks Corner, S.C.) to improve on the season.

After Augusta struck first with a run in the bottom of the first on a Ryker Benz triple, the Trojans answered emphatically in the second. Levi Medford (Canton, N.C.) led off with a single to center, and Brooks Mauro (Clemson, S.C.) followed by launching a two-run home run to left field to put Anderson in front 2-1. Zach Stover (Powdersville, S.C.) reached on a single and Adams Faucett (Spartanburg, S.C.) got aboard on a fielding error, setting the table for Bryce Helms (Kershaw, S.C.), who singled to center to score Stover. Riley Matthews (Waxhaw, N.C.) then lifted a sacrifice fly to left to score Faucett, giving the Trojans a 4-1 edge through two.

Anderson kept the pressure on in the third, sending eight batters to the plate and scoring three more times. Myles Denton (Brentwood, Tenn.) walked and Medford singled to put two on, and Stover grounded out to score Denton for the fifth run. Ryan Iannuzzo (Hicksville, N.Y.) then singled to center to plate Medford, and Helms followed with another RBI single to center to score Faucett and push the lead to 7-2.

The Black and Gold added a solo home run from Gray Wells (Chapin, S.C.) in the sixth inning, a line drive to right field that extended the advantage to 8-2. Anderson put the game away with two more runs in the eighth. Mauro grounded out to shortstop to score Denton, and Stover followed with an RBI single that also benefited from a throwing error by the Augusta left fielder, plating Medford to make it 10-2.

Medford led the offense, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Helms and Stover each finished 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Mauro went 2-for-4 with three RBI including his home run. Iannuzzo was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Denton reached base four times across three hits and two walks while scoring twice. Wells chipped in a home run and an RBI, and Faucett scored twice after reaching base three times.

On the mound, Legnard was effective through six innings, holding the Jaguars to two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out three. He earned his first win of the season, improving to 1-2. George Massingill (Greenville, S.C.) worked a scoreless seventh, striking out two, and Charlie Sauls (Estill, S.C.) closed out the ninth with a clean inning to preserve the victory. Caleb Costa (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) worked the eighth, allowing a run but finishing the frame.

The Trojans finish the season with a 25-25 overall record.
