Late Offense Not Enough as Trojans Fall at North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Despite matching North Georgia in total hits on the night, the Anderson baseball team wrapped up its four-game road swing with a 13-5 setback to the Nighthawks, Tuesday night at Bob Stein Stadium.

Anderson slipped to 15-14 on the season, while North Georgia improved to 19-11 on the season with its sixth straight win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Justin Fox was 3-for-5 on the night, with three singles, while Nick Vella added an RBI-double and a single and also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Brayden Owens posted a pair of singles and scored a run, with Kye Andress notching a double and a single in five at-bats. Jaxon Young was 2-for-5 at the plate, with two singles, a pair of RBI and a run scored.

Corey Loggins (0-1) drew the start and absorbed the loss after surrendering five earned runs on three hits over two innings on the mound. He walked three Nighthawks and struck out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning, the Nighthawks jumped on top by scoring five runs – four on a two-out grand slam by outfielder Tim Conway - in the bottom of the second inning.

North Georgia tacked on two runs in the third and fifth innings to build a 9-0 cushion, before Fox notched a two-out single in the sixth inning and scored two batters later on Young's single to left field. The Nighthawks got the run back in the bottom of the inning, with AU scoring another solo run in the seventh when Andress ripped his sixth double of the season to center field with one out and Vella followed by pulling his 10th double of the season to left field.

The Trojans climbed within 10-5 with a three-run eighth inning, courtesy of four singles and a pair of sacrifice flies, before North Georgia countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
