Trojans Outlast Staten Island at the Myrtle Beach Ripken Experience

Box Score

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – With temperatures hovering in the mid-40s and playing in a steady downpour for most of the game, the Anderson baseball team made it two in a row over Staten Island by rallying from a seven-run deficit to knock off the Dolphins, 21-15, Sunday night at the Ripken Experience.

While playing on replica dimensions of New York's Polo Grounds, the short porch in right field came into play, with three home runs being belted over the fence, which stands just 256 feet away.

Anderson improved to 13-1 on the season and 4-1 away from home, while Staten Island fell to 0-2. The Dolphins are slated to play Limestone in a pair of doubleheaders on Monday and Tuesday.

AU led, 5-1, after 3 ½ innings but the Dolphins rallied to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth and added eight runs in their half of the fifth frame to take a 12-5 advantage.

The Trojans answered immediately by posting a seven-run sixth inning to knot the score at 12 apiece, before Staten Island added three more in the bottom of the sixth to retake a 15-12 lead. But AU again answered – with a solo run in the seventh and tacked on six more in the top of the eighth inning before adding a pair of runs in the ninth, while Princiotti and Nathan Ledford held the Dolphins scoreless over the final three innings.
