Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – Freshman designated hitter James Hanvey notched two of the Trojans' four hits on the afternoon and scored the eventual winning run on Kye Andress' two-out single in the fifth inning, as Anderson defeated Emmanuel, 2-1, in nonconference baseball action, Tuesday afternoon at the EC Baseball Field.
Anderson improved to a perfect 7-0 on the season, while Emmanuel fell to 5-5.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Hanvey posted his first extra-base hits of the season with a third-inning triple and a fifth-inning double in three at-bats and scored both times, while Andress finished the afternoon 1-for-4, with the RBI-single. James LeGrand added a first-inning double and Jackson Van Ness drove in a run in the third inning.
PITCHERS
Trey Princiotto got the start on the mound and gave up one run on two hits, while striking out three and walking three in three innings of work. Joseph Cottone (1-0) got the win with an inning of relief. The left-hander struck out two of the three batters he faced and did not issue a free pass. Logan Henley and Corey Loggins also saw action on the mound, while Jackson Herring earned his first save of the season by working the final 2.2 innings. He allowed just one single and fanned three batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emmanuel struck first by capitalizing on a pair of doubles and a walk to claim a 1-0 lead after an inning of play.
Hanvey answered with a lead-off triple for the Trojans in the top of the third frame and crossed the plate when Van Ness bounced out to the right side.
With two outs in the top of the fifth, Hanvey struck again – this time with a double – and scored two batters later on Andress' single to give the Trojans hurlers all the run support they needed.
The Lions got a runner on with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Herring got the second out on a fielder's choice and struck out the next Emmanuel batter to end the threat.
