HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
Wingate built an early 5-0 lead after just two innings and wouldn't score again, but it was all the offense that the Bulldog pitchers would need.
Adams' two-run single in the third brought AU within three, and Vella led off the sixth with a double and later crossed the plate when Kohns bounced out to the left side of the infield, but the Trojans were unable to get any closer.
Game 2
Wingate jumped out in front with a solo run in the top of the first inning, but in the bottom of the frame, Fox hammered his second homer of the season over the left-field fence with one out to even the score and following back-to-back walks by Castleberry and Goodyear, Vella singled to bring home Castleberry with the go-ahead run.
The Bulldogs countered with a five-run second inning that featured a three-run homer to left field as they built a 6-2 advantage.
The third inning turned out to be the only frame that neither team scored a run, with AU posting three in the bottom of the fourth after sending eight batters to the plate and capitalizing on five singles during the inning.
Wingate added another solo run to claim a 7-5 edge in the fifth, while the Trojans pulled back within a run (7-6) when Fox led off by getting hit by a pitch and Castleberry followed by ripping a triple to the fence in center field. AU knotted the score at 7-7 with another run in the seventh inning on Adams' clutch two-out single.
The 'Dogs added a pair of runs in the eighth and three more in the top of the ninth to claim a 12-7 advantage and leaving the Trojans with just three outs remaining.
Berry ignited the unlikely rally by drawing a one-out walk and Shaw, who was pinch-hitting, was hit by a pitch. After Berry moved to third on a wild pitch, Kohns brought him home with a single through the left side and Adams drew a walk to load the bases. Fox plated Shaw with a sacrifice fly to left field and Castleberry was hit by a pitch for the 13th time this season to again load the bases and Goodyear followed with a bases-clearing double to the gap in left-center that pulled the Trojans even on the scoreboard with two outs.
Wingate elected to intentionally walk Vella and then Bryan Mitchell was hit by a pitch. With the bases full, Berry captured the game-winning RBI with his 12th walk of the season and Goodyear crossed the plate as the first-base dugout emptied in celebration in foul territory down the right-field line.
