Trojans Stumble on Road at Emmanuel

Box Score

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Anderson University baseball team was limited to four hits through six innings and fell, 3-1, to Conference Carolinas-foe Emmanuel, Tuesday afternoon.

Anderson (9-5) suffered its second loss in three decisions, while Emmanuel (7-7) defeated the Trojans for the second time this month by claiming its fourth consecutive win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Junior Nick Vella notched three of the Trojans' seven hits on the afternoon, while senior Dillon Carpenter went 1-for-3 and also reached on a walk. Daniel Blazejewski was 1-for-4, with AU's lone extra-base hit – a two-out double in the seventh inning.

Freshman Zachariah Clover (0-1) allowed just the three runs, but suffered the loss after tossing five innings. The right-hander gave up six hits, while striking out four and walking three.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions scored all the runs they needed by posting a pair of runs in the second inning and adding another in the bottom of the third.

On the other side of the ledger, the Trojans managed to get runners on base in six of the first seven innings, but came away empty-handed each time until pinch-hitter Dalton Shaw led off the top of the eighth inning with AU's second walk of the afternoon. Senior Cody Adams then pinch-ran for Shaw and moved all the way to third on an error by the Lions' pitcher. Following a walk to leadoff hitter Jacob Kohns, AU avoided the shutout when Adams crossed the plate on Vella's third single of the game. One out later, Dillon Carpenter drew a walk to load the bases and get the tying run to second, but the Trojans were unable to capitalize.

Emmanuel threatened, but was unable to push across any more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, while the Trojans went down in order in their final at-bat.
