Trojans Drop SAC Twin Bill at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Anderson University baseball team struggled offensively and dropped both ends of a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader to Tusculum, falling 4-1, in the opener and was shut out, 7-0, in the nightcap, Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Park.

Anderson, which is in the midst of playing five games in four days, fell to 8-18 overall and 5-9 in the conference with its sixth consecutive loss, while Tusculum (15-15, 8-6 SAC) has won three of its last four decisions during its 10-game homestand.

Tusculum 4, Anderson 1
Senior William Thomas notched one of the Trojans' two hits in the opener and recorded an RBI, while second baseman Justin Helms posted the other hit and garnered a pair of walks. Matthew Overton also recorded two walks, while Tyler Berry scored AU's lone run.

Austin Todd (2-3) suffered the loss after surrendering three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. He struck out four and issued just one walk.

Tusculum 7, Anderson 0
Tyler Miller, Jackson Strange and Chase Stephens accounted for the Trojans' three hits in the nightcap, with Miller also recording one of AU's three walks.

Andrew Dill (1-3) took the loss, while allowing seven runs on eight hits in four full innings of work. He walked four and struck out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
Tusculum scored solo runs in both the third and fourth innings to gain a 2-0 lead midway through the contest and increased its lead to four by scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Trojans avoided the shutout by scoring a run in the top of the ninth, but were unable to get any closer.

Game 2
The Pioneers jumped out to an early seven-run lead by scoring four in the bottom of the first, two in the second and capped off the scoring for the day with another run in the third inning.

STAT OF THE DAY
The loss in the nightcap was just the second time this season that the Trojans have been shut out.
