ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University men's tennis dominated play
against rival Erskine on Monday afternoon defeating the Flying
Fleet, 8-1, at the courts in Due West.
The Trojans improve to 12-6 overall picking up a valuable
Beville Cup point giving the Black and Gold a 7-6 edge. Erskine
drops to 2-16 on the year with two matches remaining on the
season.
Anderson took control from the start winning all three doubles
matches to gain a 3-0 advantage. At the No. 1 spot, Mateo Rivas and
Aljaz Cajzek defeated Fabricio Lanza and Alan Pearce, 8-5. Trojan
tandem Nicolas Ascarrunz and Paul Michael Calhoun won, 8-5, over
Ritwik Bhriguvanshi and Andre Andre at the No. 2 slot while Juan
Carracedo and Inaki Iriberri triumphed over Mateo Laredo and Eddy
Gullino, 8-3. The last time the Black and Gold won all three
doubles matches was on March 10 versus Belmont Abbey with the
Trojans going on to record a 7-2 victory.
Anderson won five of the six singles matches to set the final
score at 8-1. With the victories, Iriberri posted his 12th singles
win of the year while Calhoun and Carracedo have earned 10 wins
apiece for the Black and Gold.
Anderson men's tennis continues its road swing when it travels
to nonconference opponent Limestone on Friday for its final tune-up
heading into the SAC Tournament. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
