ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson baseball team continued its
nine-game homestand with an 11-1 nonconference setback to North
Georgia, Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
Anderson fell to 5-11 on the season, while North Georgia
improved to 11-4.
Sophomore Michael Rochester led the Trojans at the plate, going
2-for-4 with AU's lone RBI of the afternoon. Garrett Bernardo added
a pair of doubles, while freshman Bryce Patrick posted two singles.
Sophomore Tyler Miller was 2-for-4 and added a first-inning
walk.
Sophomore Zach Richardson (0-1) absorbed the loss after
surrendering six runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. The
left-hander fanned three Nighthawks and walked just one.
Anderson senior Kyle Bailey opened the home half of the first
inning with his seventh walk of the season and came around to score
on Rochester's two-out double to left field, giving Anderson a
quick 1-0 lead. But the Trojan bats went largely silent after the
opening frame, while North Georgia answered with a solo run in the
second, three in the third inning and two more in the fourth inning
to claim a 6-1 advantage.
The Trojans threatened with back-to-back doubles to open the
bottom of the fourth inning, but were unable to capitalize, with
the Nighthawks building their lead to six runs in the seventh
inning and capping the scoring with a pair of runs in both the
eighth and ninth innings.
Anderson gets back into South Atlantic Conference action by
playing host to Coker in a three-game series this weekend. The
series begins with a single game on Friday, with first-pitch set
for 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
