ANDERSON, S.C. -Headlined by five singles wins on the day, Anderson University men's tennis grabbed its opening South Atlantic Conference match with a victory over Mars Hill, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at the AU Tennis Complex.

With the victory, the Trojans bounced back after a loss to USC Aiken on Wednesday and improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Lions, who opened their conference season last week, fell to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in SAC play.

Anderson opened the match with a pair of doubles wins, as Paul Michael Calhoun and Inaki Iriberri defeated Markus Gattner and Ben Reid, 8-5, at the No. 2 position, while Drew Mostellar and Juan Carracedo knocked off Carlos Riesco and Blake Covington claiming an 8-5 win at the No. 3 spot.

In the singles round, Aljaz Cajzek bounced back from a doubles defeat to win over Alberto Ortiz 3-6, 7-5 (10-6) at the No. 1 spot, while Mateo Rivas followed suit by earning a team point at the No. 2 position. Inaki Iriberri took care of Carlos Riesco, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.

Rounding out the singles round, Carracedo defeated Sam Lee, 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 5 slot while still recovering from an injury. Sophomore Ramiro Urreta defeated Blake Covington 6-1, 6-3 to add the team point total.

The Black and Gold are scheduled to play Sunday at the AU Tennis Complex, as they welcome SAC foe Brevard. First-Serve is set for noon.
