INDIANAPOLIS - With its 12 victories on the season, Anderson
University men's tennis landed in the first edition of the NCAA
Southeast Regional Rankings on Wednesday, as the Trojans grabbed
the No. 11 spot to round out the weekly poll.
In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South
Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will
receive an automatic bid, with six more at-large selections. The
nine Southeast Region teams that earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament
are the most by any region, as 48 teams from across the country
move on to the annual postseason tournament.
After a 9-0 blanking over Emmanuel on Tuesday, the Trojans are
12-3 on the season with an 8-2 record in league play. Anderson was
one of three teams from the SAC to rank in the top-11, as Wingate
landed seventh, while Tusculum earned the eighth position, as both
squads defeated the Black and Gold earlier this season.
Leading the way in the weekly poll was Armstrong, as the Pirates
began a streak of five straight Peach Belt Conference schools to
begin the ranking. Following Armstrong, Lander was slotted second,
while Columbus State ranked third. Continuing the trend of PBC
members, Georgia College claimed the fourth slot, while North
Georgia rounded out the top-five in fifth.
Mount Olive broke the streak of PBC schools by landing sixth,
while the SAC tandem of WU and TC followed in seventh and eighth,
respectively. Young Harris and Francis Marion claimed the two spots
ahead of the Trojans in ninth and tenth, respectively, with AU
closing out the ranking in 11th.
AU looks to finish strong as the regular season continues to
wind down, as it hits the road for the final time this season when
it heads to USC Aiken for a nonconference contest. First serve with
the Pacers is set for 2 p.m.
