LEXINGTON, S.C. - With four victories in the singles round,
Anderson University men's tennis fended off South Atlantic
Conference rival Newberry with a 6-3 triumph Tuesday afternoon at
the Lexington Tennis Complex after the match was moved from the
Newberry Tennis Complex due to unplayable conditions.
With the victory, the Trojans capture their fourth straight win
and improve to 11-2 on the season with an 8-2 record in conference
matches. The Wolves, who played at their third different home site
this season, fall to 8-7 for the year.
AU began the doubles round with a pair of wins, as Nicolas
Ascarrunz and Harrison Kansol knocked off Carlos Nicolopulos and
Richard Zen at the No. 2 position, while the junior duo of Paul
Michael Calhoun and Inaki Iriberry claimed an 8-6 win over Jordan
Monosky and Angel Pizarro at No. 3.
The Trojans continued their winning ways in the singles portion,
as sophomore Juan Carracedo claimed a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over
Fernando Espana at No. 1, while classmate Mateo Rivas cruised to a
6-3, 6-1 win over Pizarro at the No. 3 slot. At No. 4, Calhoun
notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Nicolopulos, while Kansol remained
perfect in the singles round on the year with a 6-1, 6-4 win over
Zeh at No. 6.
Anderson is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday when it
hosts GRU Augusta in a nonconference contest. First serve is slated
for 2 p.m.
