CENTRAL, S.C. - Headlined by graduate student Nick Bernardo's triple and home run for the contest, Anderson University baseball added a nonconference road victory over in-state rival Southern Wesleyan, 12-6, Wednesday evening at Connor Field.

With the triumph, the Trojans claimed their fifth win in their last six games and improved to 14-10 on the season. On the opposite end, the Warriors fall to 5-20 for the year and have dropped 17 of their last 19 ballgames.

Nick Bernardo and Kyle Bailey led the AU lineup with three hits apiece, as Bernardo drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. The outfielder's ninth-inning solo homer was one of three runs in the top of the ninth that eventually set the final score at 12-6. For Bernardo, the homer was his first in a Black and Gold uniform as the 1-2 pitch was sent over the right-field fence.

Also with three hits, Bailey scored once and tallied one RBI on the evening as he drove in Bernardo on an infield single in the sixth for the inning's lone run. After beginning the day 0-for-3, the second baseman bounced back and tallied his fifth double of the season in the ninth immediately following the Bernardo home run.

Recording two hits on the day was left fielder Garrett Bernardo and catcher LJ Newman, as they combined for four singles. The tandem also totaled two runs apiece and each posted an RBI on the night, as Newman's double in the top of the seventh began a four-run inning for the visitors.

Shortstop Brett Cash earned a pair of RBI on the evening to match Nick Bernardo's total, while freshman third baseman Tyler Miller added a run-scoring double in the three-run ninth to cap off the contest. Rounding out the Trojan lineup, Steven Cooper, Travis Smith and Shawn Delmontagne all claimed hits for the contest.

Right-hander reliever Michael Skelly notched his first victory of the season after freshman right-hander John McMicking tossed 4.2 innings in his second start of the season. McMicking did not allow an earned run for the night, but gave up five hits and struck out one Warrior in the outing. Skelly tossed 1.1 innings and struck out two en route to the victory.

Following Skelly, right-hander Austin Smith recorded a one-hit seventh, while senior right-hander JT Trujillo followed and struck out three in the bottom of the eighth. The fifth right-handed pitcher of the night for the Trojans was Mitchell Cooksey who closed the door on the home side with one strikeout in the ninth.

Three Warriors posted two-hit games, highlighted by Johnny Ponder's 2-for-3 performance, as he crossed home twice to lead the team.

Anderson returns to Memorial Stadium this weekend when it begins a three-game South Atlantic Conference series on Friday against league-leading Catawba. First pitch on Friday is slated for 6 p.m., as the series wraps up on Saturday at Memorial Stadium with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
