Men's Tennis Remains Unbeaten, Knocks off Coker 8-1

ANDERSON, S.C. - With a perfect doubles round, followed by five wins in singles action, Anderson University men's tennis came away with an 8-1 victory over South Atlantic Conference rival Coker Sunday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.

With the win, the Trojans improve to a perfect 3-0 record on the season and move to 1-0 in league play, as they continue their streak of five straight wins in SAC openers in program history. With the setback, the Cobras fall to 1-3 overall and suffer a loss in their conference opener.

AU began strongly in the doubles portion, as sophomores Juan Carracedo and Mateo Rivas notched an 8-3 win over Coker's William Marrafao and Simon Bergbom at the No. 1 position, while Nicolas Ascarrunz and Paul Michael Calhoun claimed an 8-1 triumph over Mark Watt and Felix Schweyer at No. 2. Closing out the doubles round, Inaki Iriberry and Alex Wallace recorded an 8-3 victory over Zach Grooms and Dominic Allan at the No. 3 position.

Anderson's winning ways continued in the singles round, as Rivas defeated Watt, 7-6, 6-3 at the No. 2 slot, while Ascarrunz outlasted Bergbom at No. 3 with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 win. Calhoun added to the AU lead with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Schweyer at No. 4, while Iriberry blanked Grooms, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5. Wallace added the final win of the day for the Black and Gold over Allan at No. 6.

The Trojans look to remain perfect on the campaign on Thursday when it welcomes Peach Belt Conference's Columbus State to the Upstate. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
