Trojans Claim 7-2 Victory over Catawba

ANDERSON, S.C. - Headlined by five singles wins on the day, Anderson University men's tennis grabbed a South Atlantic Conference victory over Catawba, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.

With the victory, the Trojans bounced back after a setback to national-ranked Columbus State on Thursday and improve to 4-1 on the young season. The Indians, who opened their conference schedule on Saturday, fell to 4-3 overall.

AU opened the match with a pair of doubles wins, as Nicolas Ascarrunz and Juan Carracedo knocked off Pierce Hoover and Jack Mordey, 8-3, at the No. 1 position, while Mateo Rivas and Harrison Kansol defeated Mitchell McDonald and Lucas Miller claimed an 8-5 win at the No. 2 spot.

In the singles round, Carracedo made his afternoon a perfect one with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Mordey at the No. 2 spot, while Rivas followed with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Miller at No. 3. Paul Michael Calhoun added his first victory of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Michael Patch at No. 4 and Inaki Iriberry notched a 7-5, 6-0 win over McDonald at the No. 5 slot.

Rounding out the singles round was Kansol, as he recorded an 8-2 pro-set win over Iago Montero Nunez at No. 6.

The Black and Gold are scheduled to return to Max Grubbs Memorial Courts on Tuesday, as they welcome in-state rival Lander. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
