ANDERSON, S.C. - After going down 2-1 in the doubles round,
Anderson University men's tennis was unable to recover, falling 6-3
to in-state rival Limestone Thursday afternoon at Max Grubbs
Memorial Courts.
With the setback, the Trojans drop to an even 6-6 for the season
with South Atlantic Conference play on the horizon this weekend.
Limestone, which entered the match ranked No. 30 nationally, moves
above .500 at 8-7 on the year.
In the doubles round, the Trojans came away with one victory as
senior Danilo Faria and sophomore Paul Michael Calhoun claimed an
8-2 victory over LC's Benji Lascari Diaz and Giacomo Campus at the
No. 2 position. The teams of freshmen Juan Carracedo and Mateo
Rivas (No. 1) and sophomores Tomas Passalacqua and Inaki Iriberry
(No. 3) both posted 8-5 setbacks, as the Saints took the 2-1 lead
into singles.
Looking to make a comeback in the singles portion, Rivas and
Iriberry claimed three-set triumphs, as Rivas knocked off Stefano
Soares at No. 3, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5, increasing his winning streak to
six-straight. Iriberry increased his own winning streak to three
straight with a 6-1, 5-7, 10-7 win over Campus at No. 5, moving to
8-4 on the year.
The visitors clinched the match with two straight-set victories,
a retirement and a three-set win for their eighth win of the season
and second against a SAC opponent.
Anderson returns to action on Friday when it heads to Catawba.
First serve from Salisbury is scheduled for 2 p.m.
