HICKORY, N.C. - Having not dropped a singles match in a South
Atlantic Conference dual since Feb. 23, Anderson University men's
tennis kept the streak alive with a 9-0 blanking over Lenoir-Rhyne
on Tuesday afternoon at Hickory High School.
With the win, the Trojans move above .500 at 6-5 overall and 6-1
in league play, while the Bears drop to 5-13 on the year and 2-5 in
the SAC. The victory is AU's fifth win in its last six matches.
The freshmen team of Juan Carracedo and Mateo Rivas posted an
8-4 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne's Robin Hochguertel and Hunter Pack
at the No. 1 position, while senior Danilo Faria and sophomore Paul
Michael Calhoun snapped a brief losing skid with an 8-2 win over
Filip Dobrosavljevic and Kilian Symalla at the No. 2 slot.
Sophomores Inaki Iriberry and Tomas Passalacqua claimed an 8-1 win
at No. 3 to round out doubles.
In singles, the Trojans continued their winning trend, as
Carracedo recorded a three-set 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win over Hochguertel
at No. 1, while Passalacqua tallied a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over
Pack at the No. 2 spot.
Rivas increased his singles winning streak to five as he cruised
past Symalla 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 position, while Calhoun earned
his own straight-set win with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over
Dobrosavljevic. Calhoun has now won six of his last seven singles
matches.
Rounding out the singles round, Iriberry grabbed a 6-2, 6-2
victory at the No. 5 spot, while Faria notched a 6-3, 6-1 win at
No. 6. With the win, Faria improved to 7-2 for the season and
increased his winning streak to six straight matches.
The Trojans continue their grueling week on Thursday when they
welcome Limestone to Max Grubbs Memorial Courts. First serve
against the Saints is slated for 3 p.m.
