Box Score Box score

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson baseball team rallied late, but fell 4-3 to visiting Southern Wesleyan in nonconference action Monday night at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson wrapped up the season with an overall mark of 17-33 with the Senior Night setback, while Southern Wesleyan (17-27) swept the season series, after recording a 17-
11 win past the Trojans last week.

Senior Erich Sanderson was a perfect 3-for-3 and added a walk in his final game wearing the Black and Gold, as he blasted his fifth home run of the season over the left-field fence in the second inning. He also recorded a pair of singles. Catcher Jonathan Zalud was 2-for-4, with a pair of singles. Senior Paul Liggett added an RBI-triple in the seventh inning.

Jacob Saxon (0-1) suffered the loss for Anderson, surrendering four runs (three earned) on eight hits, while striking out one and walking three.

Freshman Andrew Howard (2-3) garnered the win for Southern Wesleyan after giving up three earned runs over seven innings. He struck out two and walked three.

The Warriors capitalized on a lead-off double and a Trojan miscue to take an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. But Sanderson answered with his towering shot in the bottom of the second to trim the SWU lead to one.

Southern Wesleyan built its lead to 4-1 with a pair of solo runs in the fourth and fifth frames, before the Trojans rallied with two runs in the seventh inning. Zalud led off the inning with a single and scored on Liggett's triple to the gap in right-center. Brett Cash followed with a sacrifice fly to right that plated Liggett, but it was as close as the Trojans would get, as a pair of Warrior relievers limited AU to one baserunner over the final two innings.
