ANDERSON, S.C. - Junior Josh Hickman and sophomore Nathan
Galliford combined for six hits on the day, including a triple and
a home run, but Anderson dropped both ends of a South Atlantic
Conference baseball doubleheader, 12-2 and 12-6 to visiting Catawba
Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
Anderson fell to 5-15 overall and 1-8 in the league, while
Catawba improved to 13-4 and 5-4.

Catawba 12, Anderson 2
Hickman was 2-for-4 in the opener and ripped his first home run
of the season over the left-field wall in the fourth inning.
Galliford added a single in three at-bats and freshman Chris Ayers
notched a single in three trips to the plate.
Sophomore Spencer Earle absorbed the loss, surrendering seven
runs (six earned) over five innings, while striking out six and
walking four.
Catawba junior John Tuttle (3-2) earned the win by going eight
innings and scattering five hits, while striking out 10 and not
issuing a walk.
The Indians jumped out to a quick lead with three runs in the
top of the first inning and added four more in the fourth on a
grand slam by junior Chris Dula to take a 7-0 lead.
Hickman's homer in the fourth got AU on the scoreboard, but Catawba
countered with five runs in the eighth inning to build a 12-1
cushion before the Trojans posted a solo run in the ninth when Ryan
Mills led off with a walk and scored on Steven Cooper's two-out
infield single.

Catawba 12, Anderson 6
Galliford was 2-for-4 in the nightcap with a first-inning RBI
triple and added a single in the fifth inning. Erick Sanderson
blasted a two-run homer in the first, while Hickman singled and
walked in four trips to the plate. Junior Thomas Goodman doubled
and scored in the first.
Sanderson (0-3) took the loss after surrendering eight runs
(seven earned) in 4 1/3 innings, while striking out five and
walking four.
Ross Whitley earned the win while giving up six runs (three
earned), while striking out one and walking six in 4 2/3
innings.
Catawba jumped ahead quickly with three runs in the top of the
first inning, but Anderson answered with five runs in the bottom of
the frame. Two runners crossed the plate on Sanderson's home run
and another crossed the plate on Galliford's triple.
The Indians evened the score with solo runs in the second and
third innings, with Anderson re-taking a brief 6-5 lead in the
fourth when Jonahtan Zalud led off the inning with a walk and
scored on Goodman's sacrifice.
But Catawba scored five in the fifth and two in the sixth to
gain the six-run lead.
Anderson wraps up its homestand with a nonconference contest
versus Belmont Abbey on Tuesday. First-pitch is scheduled for 3
p.m. at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
