ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University baseball team wrapped
up its eight-game homestand by dropping a doubleheader, 11-2 and
10-4, to Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon at a cold, blustery
and sometimes snowy Anderson Memorial Stadium.
Anderson slipped to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the league with the
setbacks, while Lincoln Memorial improved to 4-7 overall and
2-1.

AU's Josh Hickman was 3-for-4 in the opener, while shortstop
Brett Cash added three singles in five trips to the plate. Junior
Paul Como posted two hits, including a double in the sixth, while
senior Tony Price notched a double and a single in four at-bats.
Erick Sanderson was 2-for-5 with a double and a single.
Sophomore Spencer Earle (0-2) suffered the loss, giving up five
earned runs off five hits in three innings on the mound. The
right-hander struck out four and walked three.
Sophomore Logan Sawyer earned the win for LMU, going seven full
innings and giving up a pair of earned runs off 12 hits. He struck
out four and walked just one.
Lincoln Memorial scored two runs in the top of the first inning
and never trailed, adding three runs in the third and three in the
seventh.
Anderson's Nathan Galliford led off the home half of the second
inning by blasting the Trojans' first home run of the season to
left-center to get AU on the scoreboard, and after LMU claimed a
9-1 lead with a solo run in the eighth inning, Anderson's Erick
Sanderson led off with a double and scored on Chris Perez's ground
out to second base.
LMU scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth to set the
final margin.

Hickman was 3-for-4 in the nightcap and recorded two RBI, while
freshman Steven Cooper was 2-for-3 and drove in a run. Cash posted
a double and scored twice.
Sanderson (0-1) absorbed the loss, surrendering eight runs off six
hits over five innings. He struck out four and walked one.
Junior Patrick Morris (2-0) earned the win with 4 2/3 innings of
relief for LMU. He gave up one run, while scattering six hits and
struck out one, while walking one.
After LMU took a 2-0 lead with solo runs in the first and third
innings, the Trojans answered with three unearned runs in the
bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead. Como led off with a double
to left-center and catcher Jonathan Zalud followed with a walk.
Cash reached on an error that also plated Como. Zalud crossed the
plate on Cooper's sacrifice fly to center and Hickman's single to
center brought home Cash.
But Lincoln Memorial added two runs in the fifth and plated six
runs in the sixth inning to take a 10-3 lead.
Cash doubled to lead off the seventh and scored on Hickman's
single through the left side to set the final margin.
Anderson opens a six-game road swing, beginning with a
nonconference game at Limestone on Tuesday. First-pitch versus the
Saints in Gaffney is slated for 2 p.m.
