DAHLONEGA, Ga. - A seven-run first inning lifted North Georgia
past Anderson, 12-4, in non-conference baseball action Tuesday
night at Bob Stein Stadium.
With the setback, Anderson slipped to 15-21 on the season and
has dropped three of its last four, while North Georgia improved to
20-11 and has won three of its last four outings.
The Saints jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead after one inning,
while Anderson got on the scoreboard with a solo run in the third
frame. Freshman Shawn Delmontagne led off the inning with a double
to center field, moved to third on freshman Zach Reeves groundout
to second and crossed the plate with the Trojans' first run when
shortstop Thomas Padro lined to center.
North Georgia countered with two runs in the fourth inning and
one in the fifth to increase its lead to 10-1, but AU rallied for
three in the top of the sixth to close the gap to six runs.
Senior Ryan Saxon ripped a two-out single to right-center and
sophomore Erick Sanderson followed with his team-leading eighth
home run of the year over the wall down the left-field line. Ryan
Kirkland and Tony Price came up with clutch back-to-back singles
and Delmontagne added his second hit of the evening to bring
Kirkland across the plate.
But it was as close as AU would get, as the Saints tallied solo
runs in the seventh and eighth innings to set the final score.
Sanderson finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBI, while
Delmontagne also added two hits and an RBI.
Senior right-hander Kaleb Davis suffered the loss, surrendering
six hits and seven runs in 2/3 of an inning, while senior Daniel
Warzon picked up the win for the Saints with six innings of
eight-hit, four-run relief.
Anderson is slated to get back on the diamond Wednesday evening
when Erskine invades Anderson Memorial Stadium. First-pitch is
scheduled for 6 p.m.
