HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- The Anderson softball team suffered an 8-4
setback Saturday afternoon at Coker and dropped the series, two
games to one. The Cobras were on the receiving end of a stellar
pitching performance from senior Jonathan Gainey, who went the
distance, allowing just four runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts
to earn his second win of the year. The win improves the Cobras to
21-19 overall and 10-14 in Conference Carolinas play, while
Anderson falls to 14-28 overall and 8-12 in the conference. The
victory also moves Coker into sixth place in the conference
standings, giving them a two game lead over Anderson for final spot
in the conference tournament with one weekend of conference play
left. Coker will have a bye weekend, while Anderson will take on
Pfeiffer, needing two wins past the Falcons to overtake the Cobras
for the sixth and final spot in the tourney. Bryson Graydon (1-5)
took the loss for Anderson, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs
on five hits with a strikeout. Anderson's Chance Thomas had two
hits with a double and a run scored and Thomas Padro had two hits
with an RBI. Tony Price also drove in a run. Leading the Cobras at
the plate was Jordan Buenting with a pair of hits including a
double and two RBIs, while Brinley Griffin also had two hits with
two runs scored. Daniel Hiatt had three RBIs for Coker and Trevin
Taber had a double and an RBI. Anderson closes out the regular
season with a seven-game homestand, beginning with a 6 p.m. contest
