MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- Three Trojans reached double figures, but
Anderson dropped just its second contest of the season, 77-65, to
league-leading Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas action Saturday
evening at Kornegay Arena. Mount Olive improved to 8-4 overall and
5-0 in league play, while Anderson fell to 8-2 and 2-2 in the
conference. Anderson guard Brandon Young opened the game's scoring
with a layup and the Trojans built a seven-point lead, 13-6, with
just more than five minutes gone, but Mount Olive posted a 13-6 run
and pulled even at the 6:26 mark. MOC took its first lead of the
contest on a Mike Holliman putback and the lead changed hands three
times over the next two minutes before Mount Olive pushed out to a
33-26 halftime lead. The Trojans rallied to knot the score at 47-47
midway through the final stanza, but Mount Olive's Kendrick Easley
snapped the tie with a basket and Mount Olive edged out to a
nine-point lead with 9:10 remaining, but AU refused to surrender.
Taylor Shugart's putback snapped Mount Olive's run and another
Shugart score pulled AU within 57-53 with 7:01 on the clock, but
the Trojans would get no closer as Easley scored 14 points in the
final four-plus minutes of the game. Mount Olive extended the
margin to double-digits by hitting four free throws in the final
minute. Young scored a team-high 19 points, while teammates Kevis
Cornwell and Tony Anderson each netted 13 points. Taylor Shugart
grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds. Anderson will get back on the
hardwood on Wednesday, when the Trojans travel to Limestone to wrap
up their brief two-game road swing. Tip-off versus the Saints is
7:30 p.m. at Timken Gym. Game
