ROCK HILL, SC -- The Trojans season came to a close on Wednesday afternoon in the South Atlantic Conference Quarterfinals after an overtime 73-71 loss to No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne. The Trojans went into the tournament as a No. 7 seed, and they finish the season with a 16-13 overall record.
The game saw 16 lead changes with neither team ever gaining control. It was a defensive battle as both teams struggled offensively, with the Trojans shooting 36.7 percent from the field and 37.0 percent from deep while the Bears shot 41.2 percent from the field and 36.0 percent from deep.
The Bears forced overtime after tying things up at 64 with one and a half minutes to play. The Trojans couldn't get the ball back, and the Bears missed three shots to keep things level.
Lenoir-Rhyne won overtime by a narrow 9-7 margin, scoring with just two seconds left to leave the Trojans no time to extend their season.
Dallas Jones (Gainesville, Fla.) led the Trojans with 17 points and seven rebounds, going a perfect 6-6 from the line.
Cole Middleton (Atlanta, Ga.) dropped 11 points with nine rebounds.
Sam Perez (Apex, N.C.) added 11 points of his own.
AJ Wright Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) and
Austin Webb (South Point, Ohio) came up with nine points each while Wright Jr. added seven assists.
Every Trojan who got minutes got on the board.
Malachi Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) and
Caleb McAbee (Saint Johns, Fla.) came up with five points each while
James Repass (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) and
Sentinel Moore (Oklahoma City, Okl.) added two points each.
