ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans earned a 79-52 win over Newberry College (11-11, 5-10 SAC) on Wednesday night in the team's Black History Month Celebration. The lead stayed with Anderson for the entire game, and they move to 10-11 overall and 6-9 in South Atlantic Conference play with the win. The two teams were tied at seventh place in the SAC prior to tonight's contest.
"Really proud of our team tonight," head coach
Jonathon Barbaree said. "But it started yesterday. I thought we had one of the best practices we've had in a long time. We were hungry and paying attention to detail. I thought that really helped us get a great start tonight especially still being shorthanded."
The Trojans had their second-best shooting game of the season, shooting 49.2 percent from the field. They were 30.8 percent from deep and 72.2 percent from the line. The Trojans were just edged out on the boards 36-35 but limited their turnovers to 12 and forced 22 from the Wolves scoring 30 points off of turnovers.
"Defense is going to help you win any game and that first quarter couldn't have gone any better defensively. From there the game settled in, but I thought we kept our head above water like we were supposed to and we gave everyone an opportunity to play. We have to build on that and continue to get ready."
