Jonathon Barbaree is entering his tenth season as the head coach of the women's basketball program.

Most recently, Barbaree led the Trojans to their second SAC Tournament title and six berth in the NCAA Tournament under his leadership. The Trojans finished the season with a 24-10 overall record and a 17-7 record in the SAC. Anderson fell to Carson-Newman in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by a narrow 75-71 deficit.

The 2023-24 edition earned a 22-9 overall record and a 13-7 SAC record and a at-large invite to the NCAA Tournament. After falling in the SAC Quarterfinals, the Trojans won its NCAA Southeast Regional quarterfinal matchup over Wingate (74-55) before falling to the Eagles in the Regional semifinals.

The Trojans ended the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 18-13 and a 10-8 SAC record (4th in the Piedmont Division). AU earned a spot in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament title game, but fell just short losing to Lenoir-Rhyne, 63-59.

Anderson finished the 2021-22 campaign 21-10 overall and 19-5 (T-3rd) in the conference, just falling shy of a South Atlantic Conference Tournament title.

The Black and Gold finished the 2020-21 season with a 14-11 overall record, winning the opening round and their quarterfinal matchups in the South Atlantic Conference Championships.

The Trojans finished the 2019-20 season with a 26-5 overall record, while winning the SAC regular season title for the second straight season (19-3). Barbaree led the Black and Gold to its 14th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Barbaree was voted the SAC Coach of the Year for the second straight year.

The Trojans finished the 2018-19 season with a 30-3 overall record, which included a school record 28 game win streak, while finishing 1st in SAC regular season play (20-0) and won the SAC Tournament Title. Barbaree led Anderson to its 13th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the school's second ever hosting rights for the first round NCAA Tournament play. Barbaree garnered both SAC Coach of the Year and Region Coach of the Year honors.

The Black and Gold have raised more than $37, 000 over the past four seasons for the Play4Kay Initiative earning top SAC and NCAA DII honors. The Trojans raised its largest amount ever during the 2023-24 season, raising over $14,000 dollars.

Barbaree began coaching in 1995 as a student assistant at Georgia College. During his stint in Milledgeville, where he spent the first nine years of his coaching career, Barbaree helped the Bobcats compile a 178-87 overall record including three Peach Belt conference championships and four National Tournament berths. He was a student assistant for three seasons before coaching two seasons as a graduate assistant. He was promoted to full-time assistant prior to the 2000-2001 season and spent four seasons in that position.

Working under head coach John Carrick, he helped the Bobcats to three winning seasons and two Peach Belt Conference championships in 2002 and 2004. The Bobcats were the lowest-seeded team to come through the Peach Belt tournament and claim the conference crown in 2002. The 2004 team finished 28-6 and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA D-II tournament.

Barbaree left Georgia College after the 2004 campaign to take an assistant position at Furman University, where he worked for four seasons through 2008.

He then spent five years as an assistant coach at Georgia State in Atlanta. While working with the post players for the Lady Panthers, Barbaree was instrumental in the development of center Cody Paulk, who was named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s All-Defensive Team as a senior while setting a school-record with 77 blocks for the season. She finished her career with a school-record 210 blocks which ranks fifth all-time in the CAA.

Barbaree brought a wealth of collegiate coaching experience to the Anderson University program, having spent 20 years in the college ranks, 18 years as an assistant coach with three different programs and the past two seasons as a head coach for the College of Coastal Georgia posting a 24-35 overall record.

Barbaree earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Georgia College in 1998 before also getting his master’s in health and physical education from the school in 2000.

A native of Atlanta, Barbaree is a graduate of Rockdale County High in Conyers, where he lettered in both basketball and baseball with the Bulldogs.
