UVA Wise Spoils Trojan Senior Day With 63-65 Loss

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans suffered their second loss of the season to UVA Wise ( on Saturday afternoon as they honored five seniors in Ciara Harris (Alexandria, Va.), Joelle Snyder (Gainesville, Ga.), Khiara Flugence (Boerne, Texas), Alana Eakle (Westmoreland, Tenn.) and Ashlyn Sheridan (Knoxville, Tenn.). Anderson moves to 11-15 overall and 7-13 in the South Atlantic Conference with the loss.

"Really grateful for my seniors and I'm glad that we had the opportunity to celebrate them," head coach Jonathon Barbaree said.

The Trojans played through nine ties and seven lead changes. That began early as Anderson had a 15-14 lead with 1:30 to play in the first quarter before the Cavaliers took a 17-15 lead heading into the second.

UVA Wise opened on an 8-4 run and went up by as many as ten late in the second. They were up 33-26 at halftime.

The Trojans tied things up coming out of the locker room at 38-38 with six minutes to play in the third quarter. They took a short lead before the Cavaliers went on another run and earned a 46-41 lead to go into the final ten minutes.  

Anderson battled back to tie things up at 52 in the middle of the fourth quarter but the Cavaliers closed on a 13-11 run to earn the win. 

As a team, the Trojans shot 39.7 percent from the field and 27.8 percent from deep. They shot a season-low 47.1 percent from the line.

Junior Kyla Cain (Atlanta, Ga.) and sophomore Jaida Brooks (Phoenix, Ariz.) dropped 13 points each. Cain added a team-high eight rebounds and shot 6-14 from the field.

Harris put up nine points and seven rebounds.

Sheridan came up with eight points and six rebounds with two assists.

Flugence started hot with six points early and six rebounds. She shot 3-5 from the field.

Freshman Ashley Hill (Covington, Ga.) came upw ith eight points, three rebounds and three assists.

The Trojans play their last home game on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. when they host Lenoir-Rhyne University.
