Trojans Drop Tight Contest To Wingate 63-58

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans were unable to top Wingate University (7-5, 2-4 SAC) as both teams were seeking their second conference win in a tightly contested battle that went to the Bulldogs 63-58. Anderson moves to 5-7 overall and 1-5 in the South Atlantic Conference.

"Came up short tonight on good effort," head coach Jonathon Barbaree said. "Too many missed open looks early on and some bad timing turnovers hurt down the stretch. Loved us getting on the offensive glass today hopefully that will continue moving forward."

As a team, the Trojans shot 31.1 percent from the field and 92.9 percent from the line. They won the boards 47-34 with 19 offensive rebounds.

The Trojans gained a 10-7 lead in the first half before succumbing to a 9-0 run by the Bulldogs to finish the quarter down 16-10. Anderson came back and won the second quarter 14-9, coming within one but unable to take a lead, going into the locker room down 25-24.

The Trojans struggled to gain momentum in the third quarter as the Bulldogs went on a 14-2 run. They rallied to get within two at 48-46 by the end of the quarter but were still unable to get a lead. Anderson battled but lost the fourth quarter 15-12.

Graduate student Ciara Harris (Alexandria, Va.) led the Trojans with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. She shot 5-11 from the field and 9-10 from the line.

Freshman Ashley Hill (Covington, Ga.) was just one shy of her career-high with 17 points and five rebounds, along with two assists and two steals.

Junior Kyla Cain (Atlanta, Ga.) came away with 10 boards, six points and two steals.

Junior Peytyn Oliver (Athens, Tenn.) added six points and five rebounds.

The Trojans will look to bounce back as their four-game homestand continues on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m. when they host Coker University.
