Wingate, N.C. – The Anderson University women's cross country team placed third to open the season at the Bulldog Stampede on Saturday in Wingate, S.C. The meet, comprised of 13 teams, featuring five South Atlantic Conference teams including Anderson, Catawba (1st), Wingate (2nd), Lincoln Memorial (4th), and Coker (11th).
"It was nice to finally open up our season after weeks and months of training." said Head Coach Keivin Eagle. "We treated the meet as a rust buster and It definitely looked like our first race of the season."
The Trojans took home third place with an average time of 23:22.66, and a score of 107. Junior
Kennedy Roush (Greer, S.C.) finished second (21:43.71), followed by senior
Emma Whitaker (Inman, S.C.) with a top 10 finish (22:41.07). Sophomore
Hope Edmunds recorded a top 20 finish (23:27.77).
"I am extremely proud of how our girls ran today. We were not at full strength, but the women that did toe the line looked strong throughout the race. They moved up well as the race progressed and looked the part of a team that has the ability to qualify for NCAAs. Once we have everyone back and gain more fitness, this group can do special things come November."
The Trojans will be back in action Saturday (Sept. 27) as they travel to Kenosha, Wis. For the Lucian Rosa Invitational. Results can be found at autrojans.com.
