KENOSHA, WIS. – Anderson women's cross country junior
Kennedy Roush (Greer, S.C.) finished 48
th in a field of 262 at the NCAA National Championships Saturday morning, breaking the programs all-time record with a 6k time of 21:14.2 after punching her first ticket to the National Championships.
"I am so proud of Kennedy and her performance today." said head coach Kevin Eagle.
Roush was the lone Trojan representative in the women's race of the NCAA DII National Championships in Kenosha. As the second-best individual finisher at the NCAA Southeast Regional two weeks ago, Roush earned herself a spot in the national contest.
"Traveling to a national championship as an individual is a lot different since you do not have your full team there like every other race in the year." added Eagle. "Kennedy did not let that bother her as she focused solely on her race plan and executed it perfectly. She moved up well throughout the race and had an amazing finish."
Leading up to nationals, Roush competed in five meets during the season, recording personal bests in all but one meet. She opened the campaign with a 21:43 6k at the Wingate Bulldog Stampede for a second-place finish and first personal best of the season. Following Wingate, Roush placed 15
th with a 21:45 6k at the Lucian Rosa Invitational. She placed 8
th in the UAH Chargers XC invitational two weeks later, recording another personal best of 21:37. On a tough 6k course in the mountains of Tennessee at the South Atlantic Conference Championships, Roush finished fourth in the field before finishing 2
nd among top competition at the NCAA Southeast Regionals in Wingate, N.C.
Roush finishes her junior season with the Trojans earning four Top-10 finishes, All-South Atlantic Conference honors, All-Region honors and an individual bid to the National Championships.
"This should give her so much confidence in her ability and we both expect to see great results in this upcoming track season."
