WINGATE, N.C. – Anderson University Women's Cross Country junior
Kennedy Roush (Greer, S.C.), finished 2nd in a field of 181 with a time of 21:30 at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday morning, clinching herself a spot in the NCAA National Championships in Wisonsin.
"Even though we came up just short of an automatic qualifying spot, the girls ran well by putting four individuals inside the top 25." said head coach Kevin Eagle.
The top three teams from each Regional Championship earn a spot at Nationals, along with the top two finishing individuals not part of a qualifying team. The Trojans finished 4
th of 24 as a team, falling just shy of earning a team bid. Roush finished second in the field,
Scoring for the Trojans and earning Top-25 All-Region finishes was sophomore Beth Ludwick (Roebuck, S.C) finishing 19
th with a time of 22:49 in the first meet of her collegiate career, senior
Emma Whitaker (Inman, N.C.) finishing 20
th racing 22:50, sophomore
Hope Edmunds (Sandy, Utah) finishing with a time of 23:07 placing her 4th for the Trojans and 25
th overall. Rounding out the scoring for Anderson was sophomore
Natalie States (Greensboro, N.C.) crossing the finish 48
th with a time of 23:54.
Also competing for the Trojans was senior Sarah Rudolf (Winter Springs, Fla.) and freshman
Emory Dargan finishing 53
rd and 61
st with times of 23:58 and 24:08 respectively.
"We knew we had to be at our absolute best today, and we just did not quite have it. Kennedy by far had her best race in her career by placing 2
nd overall. She went for it from the gun, and it showed in the results. We will take what we learned today and apply it to future races moving forward."
Roush will travel to Kenosha Wis. with the men's cross country team to compete in the NCAA Division II National Championships on Nov. 22.
