BOSTON, MA. – Four Trojans from the Anderson University men and women's track & field team traveled to the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University on Saturday where they recorded personal bests and broke an all-time program record in the women's 5k.
For the women, Junior
Kennedy Roush (Greer, S.C.) entered the season breaking her own 5k school record with a Nationals qualifying time of 16:48.81 for a 130th place finish out of 179 in a field of highly competitive Division I programs.
"It was great to see her run in the 16's for the first time." said head Coach
Kevin Eagle. "I know that she has been working extremely hard to lower that time. Her and I both know she can go even faster given the right opportunity. This performance sets herself up well for a great winter track season."
On the men's side, redshirt senior
Spain Vaughan (Greer, S.C.) finished first for Anderson with a 5k time of 14:37.25 crossing the line 171st in a field of 199. Senior
Elliot Dotson (Simpsonville, S.C.) finished 171st with a time of 14:27.59. Freshman
Grayson Gibbons (Simpsonville, S.C.) made his collegiate debut with a lifetime record time in the 5k, finishing 190th with a time of 14:48.37.
"After a great cross country season, our goal was to hand on for two more weeks and pop off a fast 5k." added Eagle. "Unfortunately, we just ran out of gas and did not quite have the performances we had hopes for. The guys are not in a terrible spot, but expectations are that we will run much faster when we come back from winter break."
The Trojans are back in action when they return from the holiday break to compete in the Tryon Winter Classic hosted by Tryon Equestrian Center in Mill Springs, N.C.
