EMPORIA, Kan. – Anderson University Track & Field junior
Kennedy Roush (Greer, S.C.) earned Second Team All-American honors with a 10th-place finish in the women's 10k Thursday evening at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Emporia, Kans.
Her performance secured the program's first-ever All-America honors and marked another milestone season for the Trojans.
"Kennedy ran an excellent race tonight to become AU's first-ever NCAA All-America for women's track and field." said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field
Kevin Eagle. "She moved up well in the second half of the race and battled back to crack the top 10."
The Greer native crossed the finish line with a 10k time of 35:12.50, placing 10th out of a field of 22 finishers after punching her second ticket to a national championship.
Roush finished behind the nation's elite Division II programs including University of Alabama Huntsville, West Texas A&M, Chico State, Fort Hays State, Grand Valley State, and Point Loma University. She was joined in the top 15 by fellow South Atlantic Conference competitor Catawba.
Roush concluded a successful junior season at nationals. During the season, she notched two program records, four top 5 finishes, and a national qualifying time in the 10k while earning gold on the podium for the 5k at the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. After breaking Anderson's 10k program record by over a minute with a time of 34:24.92, she found herself seated 10th in the nation before heading to the national championships.
"I am so proud of her as this is a great way to cap off her junior year." added Eagle. "We will take a little time off to rest the body and reflect on this season before we gear up for a huge year this Fall. Huge things are on the horizon for Kennedy."
