Box Score HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Anderson men's soccer picked up a South Atlantic Conference road-win against No. 21 Lincoln Memorial on Saturday evening, defeating the Railsplitters 3-1. The victory marks the first for the Trojans in Harrogate since 2011.
The Trojans struck first in the 24th minute with Ivan Cardona (Cali, Colombia) heading one past the Lincoln Memorial keeper for his second goal of the season. Following an LMU foul, Andres Giraldo (Greer, S.C.) served the ball across the box to connect with the head of Marc Vila (Vilassar de Mar, Spain), who sent the ball back across frame to connect with Cardona. Fifteen minutes later, the Railsplitters equalized, and the match entered halftime at 1-1.
Two minutes into the second half, Anderson found the go-ahead goal off the foot of Diego Jaramillo (Cali, Colombia). A throw-in from Jamie Round (Hartford, England) linked with the head of Lukas Bos (Capelle Aan Den Ijssel, Netherlands) who flicked the ball on to Jaramillo. A diving LMU keeper could not stop Jaramillo's left-footed blast into the back of the next.
Not ten minutes later, the Black and Gold secured an insurance goal when Franco Antoniolli Funes (Cardoba, Argentina) serviced a free-kick the length of the field, connecting again with the head of Bos who tallied his second assist on the night from the play. Bos' header found an unmarked Round who buried the ball into the goal, doubling the Trojan lead with 35 minutes left to play.
While Lincoln Memorial outshot Anderson 26-5, only three of LMU's shots came on frame compared to AU's four. Of those Railsplitter shots, 19 of them came in the second half, but the Trojans were able to withstand the pressure.
With ten minutes left to play, the Railsplitters had the opportunity to cut the Trojan lead in half when the hosts were awarded a penalty kick. Antoniolli Funes stood his ground between the posts, however, and made his second PK-save of the season, maintaining Anderson's two-goal lead.
The Trojans walked away with three points and another away-victory against a nationally-ranked SAC opponent.
Anderson remains on the road for the next match, traveling to play Tusculum on Wednesday (Oct. 30). The game, originally scheduled for Sept. 28 but postponed due to Hurricane Helene, is set for a 6 PM kick-off.
