Trojans Hold Off Coker for Hard-Fought Victory

ANDERSON, S.C. — The Anderson University men's soccer defeated Coker 3-2 on Sunday. The Trojans held the Cobras scoreless through eight attacking actions late in the second half while the score remained 3-2.

"Gritty win tonight," said head coach Michael Zion. "Really proud of the guys and the effort they gave.  Found a way to get it done.  First SAC win and a big three points."

Jace Hicks scored the game-winning goal on his lone shot. Adrian Castillo recorded the first goal and put both of his shots on frame. Kaiden Smith also scored, converting his only shot attempt. Smith has now scored in three consecutive games. Luis Munoz added an assist and led AU with three shots, including one on goal.

The Black and Gold built a 2-0 first-half lead behind goals from Castillo and Kaiden Smith. Castillo opened the scoring at 21:13 off Munoz's assist, and Smith added another at 34:24 with Joachim Koch assisting. CU scored at 42:13, but the Trojans went into halftime ahead 2-1.

Hicks put AU in front at 74:46, scoring from Aryan Benitez's assist for a 3-2 lead after the Cobras had tied the match early in the second half. Benitez hit the left woodwork seconds before the goal, and the Black and Gold then protected the lead as CU earned four corner kicks and Asher Risell saved Manuel Molina's shot at 81:12. The 3-2 score held through full time, giving the Trojans the win.

Up next, the Trojans travel to Emory, Virginia, to face Emory & Henry on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, at 5 p.m.
